There seems to be a slight trend in the world of wine at the moment, to link specific bottles of wine to (alive and dead) celebrities. Just in the last ten years we’ve been treated to wines from Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, even Elvis Presley (and a whole host of others).

However these famous names, although lending their name and image to the bottle, rarely have anything to do with the actual production of any of the wines. That’s where Francis Ford Coppola comes in to take the crown of King of the celebrity winemakers.

Not only does Coppola help produce the wine himself, he takes the whole thing very seriously. After the success of The Godfather, Coppola purchased the majority of the Inglenook estate in Napa Valley. Since this purchase in 1975, Coppola has played a pivitol role in the success and reputation of the Napa Valley as a wine-producing region, receiving a huge amount of acclaim for the wines he has produced there.

If you’re looking to try a bottle of Coppola’s wine, go for the wonderfully packaged Niebaum-Coppola collection which are not only phenomenally drinkable, but are so unique they would make fantastic wine gifts.

All of the wines are gorgeous, with each one offering its own individual benefits. The red wines in the Coppola collection are rich, deep, full of fruit and will remind you of the top French wines. The whites are far more reminiscent of Spanish wine, especially the pricier varieties.

Coppola isn’t the only celebrity to move into the wine industry proper, but he’s certainly one of the most highly respected. Other well-known winemakers include Shane Warne, Greg Norman and Gerard Depardieu, who makes a range of superb wines with renowned winemaker Alain Paret.

Get yourself and online and spend a bit of time searching and you’ll find some surprisingly good wines produced by international celebrities. If you’re going to try and sample just one of the celebrity ranges, you should definitely go for something from the Neibaum-Coppola range.
